ACE
The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is the modernized US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) commercial trade processing system designed to facilitate legitimate trade while strengthening border security.

ACE is currently being implemented in clusters and will soon become mandatory for the trucking community at all 91 border crossings

  • The first cluster of border crossing ports became mandatory May 26, 2007 in the states of Washington, Arizona, and select North Dakota ports.

ACE is has three major enhancements:

  • e-Manifest for Trucks
    • An automated cargo manifest that carriers will be required to submit to CBP before a trucks arrival at the border
  • Single system for Truck Release
    • Accelerated processing due to the use of a single system by CBP officers
  • New Homeland Security Features
    • Enhanced security at the border through improved tracking and research capabilities

e-Manifest
The e-Manifest is the submission of trip, conveyance, equipment, crew, passenger, and shipment details electronically.

e-Manifests must be submitted to CBP at least an hour (or 30 minutes for Free and Secure Trade (FAST) participants) before arrival at the port of entry into the US.

Transition to the e-Manifest has increased border security by the:

  • ability to pre-screen shipments
  • early identification of high-risk shipments
